Famous fans celebrate Emporio Armani’s new Fall/Winter 2017 line

Emporio Armani celebrated its new Fall/Winter 2017 Collection with an exclusive cocktail party at its Canton Road flagship store.

Brand ambassador and Chinese sensation Hu Ge – whose face is splashed across Emporio Armani ads all over town – was the star of the show in a dapper double-breasted evening jacket over a white mandarin collar shirt from the new men’s line.

The private event also attracted local celebrities and socialites including actress and singer Kelly Chen, actress Cherry Ngan, Adam Pak, Jason Wu, Angie Ng, Faye Tsui, and more. Many were spotted eagerly browsing through the displayed selection.

Interactive hi-tech digital gadgetry kept guests entertained and gave the evening a futuristic vibe as they dabbled with an augmented reality game app and posed at the 3D photo booth.

Gucci’s new store celebrates the ‘do it yourself’ spirit

With its recent flagship store reopening at Landmark, Gucci has once again shown why it’s a brand with a difference.

Creating a space that is instantly recognisable as Gucci, the store is huge by Hong Kong standards, boasting 7,700 sq. ft of floor area, spread across two storeys, featuring an extensive range of men’s and women’s ready-to-wear collection, handbags, accessories, shoes and watches.

The collection and store design matches Creative Director Alessandro Michele’s whimsical, idiosyncratic aesthetic style and evokes the same retro-chic vibe that Gucci has been aiming for in the last few years.

To accentuate the fashion label’s new direction, the ground floor of the newly refurbished store houses the Gucci DIY (Do It Yourself) service that allows customers to personalise certain products to best express their individualism.

As expected in any Gucci event, the launch cocktail party saw a host of socialites attending the event. Among those spotted were Kary Ng, Aarif Lee, Hilary Tsui, Wyman Wong, Carmen Yim, Yen Kuok, Antonia Li, Tiffany Chan, Rene Chu and many more.

Diamond Daze: Stunning necklace unveiled by De GRISOGONO

Italian high jewellery atelier De GRISOGONO created some serious shockwaves when they unveiled the highly anticipated “The Art of De GRISOGONO” necklace at Christie’s Hong Kong.

Set in an elegant swirl of emeralds and diamonds, the necklace’s stunning centrepiece is a staggering 163.41-carat flawless D-colour emerald-cut white diamond.

Already gargantuan in size, the stone was cut down from a mind-bogglingly large 404.20-carat rough diamond mined by Nemesis International in Angola.

De GRISOGONO founder Fawaz Gruosi snuck in a second surprise reveal – an elegant diamond-studded black bracelet into which the large gem can also be socketed.

Gruosi shared, “In my entire 40 years in this business, I even imagined that I would have the chance to hold in my hand something so beyond beauty.”

The Art of De GRISOGONO necklace and bracelet are set to tour London, Dubai and New York before heading to Christie’s Geneva in November for auction. Keep your eyes peeled, there may be some records broken that day!

Hot & Cold: Straddling two seasons? Here’s what to wear

With autumn already setting in and winter just around the corner, here are our tips on what to wear to look stylish and feel comfortable at the same time.

Check out the video below to see the behind-the-scenes action.

New Versace collection pays homage to Gianni Versace

On the 20th anniversary of Gianni Versace’s tragic death, his sister Donatella paid tribute to his legacy by launching the Versace Tribute Collection at the Milan Fashion Week.

Drawing inspiration from Gianni’s own collections from the late ‘90s, the models strutted down the runway in vibrant colours and bold patterns that boasted just a dash of retro lines.

Five of Gianni’s greatest muses – supermodels Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Carla Bruni and Claudia Schiffer – were also on hand to mark the occasion.

Bedecked in shimmering gold floor-length gowns, they joined Donatella Versace for the finale, walking down the runway with George Michael’s Freedom playing in the background.

Donatella Versace said, “This collection is a tribute to the life and works of Gianni. We pay homage to not only his artistic genius but to who he was as a man, and above all, as my brother.”

Genesis of a bag: D’Auchel’s bespoke bags take shape in front of your eyes

What is your take on bags? Do you think of them as accessories or fashion statements or just utility items? Well, it’s time to think again, as premium French handbag brand D’AUCHEL makes them an once-in-a-lifetime experience.

In a world where everything becomes ‘oh-so-last-season’ in a jiffy, D’AUCHEL’s handbags are eternal, classic, 100% handmade and crafted from top-quality leather.

In an atelier adjoining the showroom, skilled artisans painstakingly produce their labour of love; from cutting to stitching to putting the final touches, each step takes extreme diligence and it may take around two weeks to have the finished product in your hand.

While this is far longer than an average bag-buying experience, it’s worth the wait for a completely bespoke bag that will cater to your specific requirements in a way that an off-the-shelf bag never will.

Olivier Dauchez, the brand’s CEO, explains, “This is not a shop, but a showroom. The models displayed here are not for sale. Clients can choose a model and request modifications to it in terms of size, colour, material, extra zippers, pockets and so on.”

As is eminently clear, D’AUCHEL bags are not for everyone. But, those who prefer discreet luxury over OTT extravagance, do pay a visit to the maison and atelier tucked away in a corner of Central. But remember, it’s strictly by appointment only.

Prada’s corpse bag: spoof or reality?

How far is too far when it comes to brand obsession? Comedy group, The Kloons, have a really tongue-in-cheek reply to that.

In a hilarious spoof video that surfaced some time ago, they took the idea of brand obsession to the next level with a humorous take on Prada’s bags.

The video, which has been shot like an ad campaign for Prada, shows an ultimate corpse bag with the iconic Prada logo, which can be literally the last bag you ever need!

While Prada’s reaction to the video is not known, Prada itself seems to have taken the brand obsession quite seriously – it recently launched a Prada paperclip worth a neat 185 US dollars!

While the sum may be over-the-top for a paperclip, the bold letters spelling ‘Prada’ give it aspirational value.

Maybe it’s time to sit back and take stock of the ridiculousness of it all or the ‘Prada Body Bag’ may become a reality before we know it.

Who knows, maybe Prada would need to use the ‘Prada Body Bag’ to pack its own brand and we would need to use it to bury our consumerist cravings.

Hepburn-ing Desire: Coveted items from Audrey’s estate

Audrey Hepburn was – and still is – an icon of film and fashion. More than two decades after her death, college-aged girls are still hanging posters in their dorm rooms of Hepburn as Holly Golightly in the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The actress was celebrated for her on-screen charm and impeccable style, and die-hard fans now have a chance to take home a piece of Hepburn’s very own wardrobe.

Items from Hepburn’s personal collection will be sold by Christie’s auction house in London next month. One item up for grabs is the sky blue Givenchy cocktail gown that she wore to a photo shoot in 1966 to promote the film Two for the Road. The satin-fringed dress “epitomises the deceptively simple style for which Hubert de Givenchy and Audrey Hepburn are both celebrated”, according to Christie’s. A Burberry trench coat and a colourful selection of ballet flats will also be auctioned off.

The most valuable item for sale is an annotated copy of Hepburn’s working script for Breakfast at Tiffany’s, with notes and revisions written in her own hand. It is expected to sell for at least HK$606,000. As Hepburn once said, “Everything I learned I learned from the movies.” Perhaps the buyer of this script will have a similar revelation while reading it – or at least gain a new appreciation for one of Hollywood’s favourite leading ladies
