Floral-designed handbags take centre stage at 2020 catwalk

Floral-designed handbags grabbed much attention at the catwalk this year. This Fall/Winter 2020, handbags adorned by floral designs offer an irresistible allure with fun, flirty floral flourishes that accentuate the bold and beautiful spirit of the modern-day young woman. From Bottega Veneta’s signature intrecciato weaves to a haute couture rose embellishment, here are the most popular flower-inspired designs for handbags in FW20:

Floral prints have long been a beloved design in fashion. Throughout history, floral designs have evolved from exotic Chinese flower prints on silk to 18th-century European flowers printed on cotton, to today’s various wild interpretations and incorporations of flora and fauna in haute-couture designs such as the Atelier Bag Rose Edition with shoulder strap by Italian luxury brand Valentino Garvani. A fun and flirty accessory to express passion and beauty for the sophisticated fashion-forward female.

Weaved leather

A show of craftsmanship and luxury is the intrecciato weave, a design synonymous with the high-fashion Italian brand, Bottega Veneta. The New Jodie Medium tote bag is their latest creation to garner a lot of hype at the FW20 runway. Without the need for branded labels, the textured design is a signature look in itself and complements the sleek and effortless style of a confident woman.

Flower petals embellishments

Texture and tactile is a common sight in FW20’s fashion runways. Such is the case in Valentino Garavani’s Atelier Rose Edition 03  large tote that features a classic tote silhouette embellished with flower petals and a contrasting leather strap. Made with viscose material for a lightweight and luxurious look, it is a fun and contemporary take on the flower-inspired design that serves as a functional bag to fit all the essentials of a lady while still fashioning a chic and elegant look.

Tassel details

Tassels are one of 2020’s trendiest accessory details, alongside pom poms and fringes. A fun and floral detail at the end of the drawstrings of a handbag like Loewe’s Flamenco clutch with bell tassel. A detail that is reminiscent of the allium flower or chive flower adds a playful touch to the sleek shoulder bag.

Playful yet undeniably powerful, the new FW20 collection of bold hues and vibrant prints is an homage to the modern woman in all her multifaceted forms. A key motif throughout are the pointed shoulders, rigid lines that embody an otherworldly aesthetic, attributing their wearers with an eerie appeal.

A slew of effortlessly sophisticated designs that embody the concept of comfortable refinement, as aptly demonstrated by FW20’s creative director, Daniel Lee’s, use of sweeping gowns and flowing fringes that scream effortless elegance. Accentuating this motif are an array of beautiful intrecciato leather accessories that can be used day or night.

Creative Director, Virginie Viard, encapsulates freedom and liberation into the designs that all hold female self-expression at their core, be it a daring cropped ruffled shirt, a skin-baring bralette-and-maxi-skirt combo or even a plush one-piece suit dress. In the variety of the FW20 collection, one message is clear: comfortable can be sexy too.

A known feminist, Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri’s passion has translated into a range of looks that capture the complex facets of womanhood that embrace a defiant, rebellious, feminist spirit. Ranging from the flirtatiousness of a low-cut white dress with playful fringes to the casual confidence of an all-denim suit to the power imparted by a perfectly cut checkered suit. Throughout the FW20 showcase, her models are adorned with bandanas that permeate a sense of anti-establishment sentiment.

In place of the avant-garde designs that so often dominate Dolce & Gabbana’s collections, its FW20 season embraces a softer, more artisanal appeal in favour of time-honoured craftsmanship skills of shoemakers, seamstresses and knitters, as evidenced by the impeccably tailored suits, heavy knit coats, crocheted bralettes and knitted footwear.

Awash in a plethora of fabrics, textures and materials, the new FW20 collection from Giorgio Armani presents a truly romantic vision. Dazzling bejewelled studs and feathery pompoms vie with svelt chiffon and velvet floral prints for domination, presenting a vibrant feast for the eyes. Throughout, a playful exploration of silhouettes is apparent in the sheer shirts and gowns, flowing pants and jackets and even an asymmetrical accent thrown in for good measure.

In place of last season’s more floral and hippie motifs, this new FW20 line presents a wholly formal approach inspired by scans of Nouvelle Vague movie posters and artworks of Helena Almeida and Ketty La Rocca, red and white are the dominant colours as evidenced by strong rigid shoulders, double-breasted jackets and an elegant asymmetrical brown cowl. Touches of feathers, fringes and polka dot prints add an extra dimension of flamboyance to the proceedings

Creative Director Alessandro Michele transports us back to simpler times with his latest collection for Gucci. Invoking the innocence of childhood, his FW20 catwalk is replete with creations reminiscent of little girls’ pinafores and dresses. Meanwhile, Michele has also relied on ’60s-era hippie chic for a significant portion of his new catalogue, as is apparent in the floral printed gowns, high-waisted trousers and tinted over-sized sunglasses.

Featuring apparels that cultivate a sense of athletic chic without once sacrificing on quality and elegance, creative director Nadege Vanhee-Cybulski’s vision for “what is beautiful must also be useful” was brought to fruition through an interspersed of sporty looks and a multitude of more formal outfits – a sleek striped grey dress, a swishing pleated silk skirt, an all-leather suit ensemble, class lines and primary colours.

historically inspired oufits such as matador jackets collide with geometrically accented dresses and jackets as well as avant-garde metallic tones in this staggering 200-ensemble homage to freedom in fashion. A visual smorgasbord of patterns, textures and colours, “This collection is about sartorial ‘tuning’,” says creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, “It’s sort of an anachrony of genres. It can simply be the pleasure of dressing and its many possibilities, free of protocol or constraint.”

Everywhere, injections of masculine tones offer a hint of androgyny, but that never fails to detract from the dominant motif of feminine strength. Be it the formality of the perfectly tailored power suits accentuated with figure-clinching belts, the casual chic of a sleeveless knit sweater and high-slit skirt or the flirtatiousness of a fringed leg-baring dress, every outfit evokes an aura of inherent power and femininity this FW20.

Sensual yet minimalist, clean lines and refreshingly uncomplex designs dominate Salvatore Ferragamo’s new seasonal collection. Inspired by famed psychologist Carl Jung’s essays on female archetyps, Creative Director Paul Andrew has instilled his latest designs with ensembles that blend aspects of the seven female paradigms as described by Jung: the huntress, the mother, the queen, the sage, the lover, the mystic and the maiden.  “Fitting into a single type is obselete today,” says Andrew, “Women’s identities are shifting kaleidoscopes.”

In the wake of the continuing saga of the coronavirus pandemic, Valentino’s new FW20 collection features sombre hues and severe silhouettes. But in a defiant rebellion towards the world’s ‘new normal’, dotted between these sobering outfits are garments that embrace hope and renewal, most notably in the form of a bright red sequin column dress that stands as one of the collection’s highlights.

Here, peek-a-boo bralettes, nipple-baring sheer shirts, figure-hugging skirts and dominatrix-esque patent leather boots abound are all swathed in neon pinks, rich purples and other attention-grabbing hues. From start to end, it’s a riot of colours, cuts and fabrics that perfectly accentuate womankind’s innate sensuality.

Hottest SS20 Looks: Dive into Part 2 of our seasonal catwalk round-up

If the haute couture SS20 offerings of our first fashion round-up wasn’t enough to quench your sartorial thirst, we dive into the Spring / Summer creations of even more luxury fashion labels including Prada, Valentino and more to offer up more inspiration for your seasonal wardrobe…

SS20 looks part 2 - Gucci

Gucci

Provocative yet undeniably feminine, Gucci’s new seasonal line has been inspired by the brand’s own dynamic back catalogue, with loud ’70s-era block prints adorning lean, figure-hugging designs. In stark contrast, softer princess- cut gowns of yesteryear and delicate sequined skirts also have their moment to shine, with a preponderance of black accents adding a deft dash of dynamism throughout.

SS20 looks part 2 - Hermes

Hermès

Quite literally drawing creative sparks from Hermès’ roots, creative director Nadege Vanhee-Cybulski’s SS20 collection relies heavily on the art of saddlery and the aprons worn by the craftspeople in its headquarters of Pantin, France. This sees layers of deftly worked leather overlap and flow, embracing and enhancing the feminine figure in myriad ways.

SS20 looks part 2 - Max Mara

Max Mara

Crafted as a would-be wardrobe for an adventurous, globetrotting lady 007, Max Mara creative director Ian Griffiths has devised a seasonal collection that serves up something for every encounter, from a “car chase to the ball scene”. It’s an intriguing collection, with beige coats, stylised suit dresses and even the shimmering ball gowns all hinting that there’s more to the wearer than meets the eye.

SS20 looks part 2 - Prada

Prada

Juxtaposition is the name of the game with Prada’s new Spring / Summer line. Awash in a treasure trove of patterns, textures and hues, the more everyday fare – trench over a top and pleated skirt, for instance – has been interwoven with outré statement pieces like a printed neon orange overcoat or a glossy green maxi dress, all proving that “personal style is more important than the clothes”.

SS20 looks part 2 - Salvatore Ferragamo

Salvatore Ferragamo

Embracing the spring season’s synonymity with a fun, flirtatious feel, Salvatore Ferragamo has served up some light, airy ensembles to celebrate the onset of warmer weather. Embodying beach chic are an array of flowing dresses and skin-baring shorts and skirts, while a series of high-waisted, baggy pants impart an air of effortless elegance to proceedings. Topping it all off are bags of every shape and shade that prove the right accessory can truly enhance your entire ensemble.

SS20 looks part 2 - Tom Ford

Tom Ford

Peek-a-boo bralettes, off-shoulder cropped tops, slinky ruffled jumpsuits, Tom Ford’s Spring / Summer collection stands as an homage to the bold fashionista. Rigidly structured shoulders are a staple of the line, in turns playfully softened with flowing tops or enhanced with bold black leather accents. Dynamic and provocative, each piece embraces the sexuality of modern womankind.

SS20 looks part 2 - Valentino

Valentino

“I want to work on something universal, to get back to the essence of shape and volume”, said Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli. And indeed, his new SS20 collection is a master class in layers, ruffles, tassels and fabrics. Amid his more outré, boldly hued and printed garments are a series of all-white creations that prove – when structured the right way – a monochromatic look is a statement-maker in its own right.

SS20 looks part 2 - Versace

Versace

When Jennifer Lopez donned the now-infamous jungle-print Versace dress for the 2000 Grammy Awards, the subsequent furor it caused led to the creation of Google Images. Now, Donatella Versace has placed that selfsame jungle motif at the centre of her new line, all judiciously punctuated with bold prints, neon hues and, of course, a jungle-printed dress.

Autumn / Winter 2019-20: Part 2 of the hottest haute couture looks this season

Continuing on from Part 1 of our Autumn / Winter 2019 fashion coverage, we highlight the hottest haute couture looks from some of the world’s best-loved luxury brands. Check out our favourite outfits from Gucci, Louis Vuitton and more!

Autumn Winter 2019 haute couture

Gucci

To say that Gucci’s Autumn / Winter 2019 collection is eccentric is an understatement. The maison’s maverick creative director Alessandro Michele has depicted an utterly chaotic world on the runway with a glorious mishmash of colours, textures and patterns. Many of the pieces have been left deliberately unfinished, with their raw edges jutting out fiercely. The accessories are whimsical as well – a pair of casual Gucci trainers here, a sombre handbag there. But among the accessories, the most unusual and poignant are the masks. With these, Michele explores the interchanging nature of person and persona – transforming them from instruments of deceit to manifestations of our chosen personality.

Hermès

Knickerbockers-style jumpsuits, shorts and black leather jackets, dressage bodysuits, fitted trousers, tailored dresses, double-faced coats – the classic and the contemporary collide in dramatic fashion on the runway, courtesy of Hermès’ latest  line. With severe blacks, muted tans and classic camel shades ruling the colour palette, this is one collection that refuses to be swayed by the fickle winds of change in fashion. Instead designer Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski has put her faith in the inherent comfort that comes with constancy, making it a collection that is well and truly for keeps.

Loewe

Jonathan Anderson, Loewe’s creative director, has pushed the boundary between shapes and fabrics this season with the marque’s Autumn / Winter 2019 collection. So severe chequered overcoats and ribbed knitwear go hand in hand with cut-out dresses and sheer lace skirts with a flair that is at once clever, playful and a tad risqué. Showing his mastery over colours, Anderson has thrown shades of saffron, cerulean and vermillion in sharp relief against the more subdued black, olive, navy, camel and ivory hues. This duality between conservatism and modernity is perhaps best depicted through the hats that the models sported so jauntily. Inspired by Coret millinery, the headgear depicts whimsical borders and paradoxical textures, from post-modern winged skullcaps to whimsical fringe caps.

Louis Vuitton

The rather expansive theme of ‘culture’ is the central motif of Louis Vuitton’s Autumn / Winter 2019 collection. However, creative director Nicolas Ghesquière has narrowed it down by drawing inspiration from Beaubourg, the famous Centre Pompidou library in the fourth arrondissement of Paris, a cultural melting pot that is said to bring together different forms of art and literature under one roof. For Ghesquière, it is a “place where expression is free to be” and it is this very freedom of expression that he explores through a psychedelic mosaic of textures, prints, fabrics, punkish metal embellishments and leather skullcaps in this truly multifaceted collection.

Prada

Prada’s Autumn / Winter 2019 womenswear range is all about romance – the good, the bad and the ugly of it all. Creative director Miuccia Prada unapologetically explores the anatomy of love through a range of post-modern feminine looks – all lace capes, rose embellishments, floral brooches and glittering shoes. Even the most severe of these ensembles – a militaryesque jacket – has been softened a sexy lace skirt. Then there is the hearkening for unlikely love stories, for Gothic romance and noir love, as depicted in a black lace outfit featuring Frankenstein and his Bride.

Salvatore Ferragamo

Shoes serve as the anchor for Salvatore Ferragamo’s latest collection. Perhaps that is not too surprising given that the present creative director of the women’s line, Paul Andrew, headed the footwear division before his current role. His approach towards ready-to-wear couture, then, has been to start with the shoes – “dressing toe to head” as he calls it. So structural heels, Gancini monogram jacquard booties, satin stilettos and pull-on calfskin boots keep the collection grounded, while fringe cashmere blanket coats, soft leather robes and hand-knit textured sweaters confer a sense of discreet luxury.

Valentino

Valentino’s Autumn / Winter 2019 womenswear range has an undeniably dream-like quality to it. As creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli puts it: “I feel that people are looking for emotion and dreams – but not distant dreams.” To channel this into his collection, he has paid generous homage to not one but four contemporary poets: Greta Bellamacina, Yrsa Daley-Ward, Mustafa The Poet and Robert Montgomery. Inspired by their works, Valentino’s ensembles paint a bright, bold canvas in red, yellow, black and white, interspersed with delicate shades of pastel. The patterns and graphic prints – some showing amourous embraces, cut-out-style roses and butterflies – all speak a language of love and hope.

Versace

Can luxury and grunge go hand in hand? While those less au fait with fashion may say ‘no’ to such a concept, Versace’s Autumn / Winter 2019 collection has taken it upon itself to prove them totally, irrevocably wrong. So rich fabrics sporting unfinished hems, black leather jackets thrown over lace dresses, all adorned with the maison’s signature safety pins, rule the runway, revelling in the dichotomy between regal and rock chic. As chief creative officer Donatella Versace explains it: “With this collection, I wanted to show that side of a woman that isn’t afraid to step outside of her comfort zone because she knows that imperfection is the new perfection.”

Five unusual gift ideas for him this summer

What do you gift to the man who has the perfect wardrobe, the latest gadgets and an impeccable taste? If you’re struggling to find an answer to this particular conundrum, let us help you with five unusual gift ideas for him, that will hopefully get an appreciative nod from even the most fastidious of gentlemen.

Cognac Colossal

Unusual gift ideas for him

The fine folks over at Louis XIII have unveiled their latest spirited masterpiece – which is surely set to nestle alongside its already semi-legendary collection of fine cognacs – the most certainly one-of-a-kind Le Salmanazar, its first-ever nine-litre crystal decanter. Beautifully crafted by Baccarat, the venerable French curators of fine creations, it is officially the largest crystal cognac decanter in the world and a more-than-fitting placeholder for some of the most precious eaux-de-vie ever to see the light of day. Truly a work of art, Le Salmanazar is sure to grace any gentleman’s liquor cabinet capacious enough to contain it.

Travel Lightened

Unusual gift ideas for him

Looking to make your luggage every bit as colourful as your travel itinerary, legendary German travel accessories label Rimowa has four new colours in its range of suitcases. Available in what are called ‘Rimowa Essential colours’ – Coral, Slate, Sage and Saffron – and in three sizes – Essential cabin, Essential check-in L and Essential trunk – the suitcases are said to all be inspired by the world’s natural wonders, including coral for Australia’s Pink Lake and saffron yellow for the rolling fields of Tuscany. www.rimowa.com

Radio Retro

Unusual gift ideas for him

In what is set to be a dream come true for ardent antique collectors across the city, an authentic 1953 Hermès-Radio – Annecy vintage radio is up for grabs courtesy of The Time Machine @ Museum Concept, right here in Hong Kong. While the product shouldn’t be confused with the French luxury house of the same name, this refurbished classic one-off wireless is, nonetheless, a very special find, especially as it comes with a Bluetooth 4.0 upgrade, a new 120W speaker and a 50W analog amplifier. www.museumconcept.com.hk

Time and Tide

Nove, a bold new Swiss watch brand, is looking to make its mark in the home of horology by creating the slimmest diver’s watch the world has ever seen, courtesy of its newly-debuted Trident timepiece. Taking inspiration from the mighty weapon wielded by Poseidon, the Greek god of the oceans, the Trident is said to be only 6.8mm thick, making it thinner than any other dedicated deep-sea chronometer. Arguably, it’s more than just a statement piece, with its water resistance to depths of up to 200m making it quite an impressive entrée for the marine-minded marque.

Kaleidoscopic Crystals

Unusual gift ideas for him

Riedel, the Austrian luxury glass grandee, has announced the first fruits of its unique collaboration with the Elton John AIDS Foundation – a 99-piece limited-edition Cornetto Rainbow Double Magnum decanter, of which 12 are to be made available to high-end Hong Kong collectors. Handmade in the company’s Bohemian workshops, each premium-quality crystal decanter has been engraved with Sir Elton John’s signature and comes with a personally signed and numbered certificate. With their striking rainbow design said to represent acceptance and hope, they’re a fine blend of tolerance and on-tap Terret Noir.

Beauty News: Hermès Is Officially Launching Makeup and Skincare

You may want to mark your calendar (or rather countdown app) as Parisian fashion house Hermès, has announced the exciting news via Business of Fashion, that the brand will be launching both make-up and skincare lines next year in 2020. Both collections are being developed in-house, however manufacturing is taking place by third-party suppliers, primarily in France and Italy.

Hermès

Joining the ranks of luxury brands who already offer their own high-end cosmetic lines such as Chanel and Dior, just to name a few, Hermès though, will offer consumers the unique and eco-friendly choice of purchasing make-up and skincare sans the plastic packaging, goodbye bubblewrap!

Citing the success of their fragrance collections, which saw profits rise by 9 percent last year in 2018 and now account for the 5 percent of the brand’s overall sales, Hermès is choosing to branch out and become a full-scale global beauty brand.

Despite the exciting news that has us all on the edge of our seats we’ll need to stay put and be patient, as not many details regrading the products or the official release date have been announced yet. In the meantime, we can use our imaginations and dream of all the luxurious moisturisers, lipsticks and eyeshadows to come… with what we’re sure will have the pretty price tags to match.

Spring / Summer 2019: Turn up the heat with these flirtatiously femme fads

Dazzling hues, arresting patterns and bold prints – the haute couture world celebrates the emergence of spring with a seemingly endless array of divine designs. From subtly sophisticated power suits and chic silk skirts to avant-garde accessories and apparel, from ’60s-era flared trousers and ’80s geometric patterns to metallic Space Age inspirations, this season’s collections deftly balance every imaginable style in a whirlwind of fads, fabrics and flourishes. Onwards, then, to the top looks of Spring / Summer 2019…

Burberry

Turning the old adage that beige is boring completely on its head, chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci has completely transformed this once -blasé shade into the very cutting edge of refined haute couture this season. Deftly divided into three separate sections – casual, sophisticated and evening wear – these creations were craf ted solely with the modern woman in mind. From posh pencil pants and square-shouldered suit jackets to playful polka dots and bold animal prints, Tisci’s masterful deployment of textures, tones and fabrics will surely find favour with haute couture-minded madames the world over, no matter what the occasion.

Chanel

In what was to be his final collection for Chanel, its late creative director Karl Lagerfeld transported his audience to the sun-dappled beachside. With a solid emphasis on flirtatious fun, his barefoot models pranced – sandals firmly in hand – down the catwalk in a flurry of ruffles, silky silhouettes and a plethora of patterns, with a hip handbag or two thrown in for good measure. The highlight of the show, though, was undoubtedly the svelte showcase of Chanel’s signature tweed in the form of suit jackets, gloves and overcoats, all cut in contemporary fashion and burnished in bold hues of pink, yellow and blue.

Chloé

There seems to be no expiration date for some good old-fashioned ’60s hippie chic, at least as far as Chloé’s Natacha Ramsay-Levi is concer ned. Drawing inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of Morocco and Ibiza, her sophomore Spring / Summer collection for the maison pays tribute to the festival going fashionista of the Flower Power era with a rich catalogue of Boho-esque flared trousers, kaf tan gowns, figure-hugging jump suits, and ethnic-printed silk scarves and shirts. A veritable treasure trove of talismanic accessories – from tasselled earrings and rope belts to cuff bracelets and oversized pendant necklaces – rounds out the line’s refined New Age vibe.

Dior

Creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri explores the concept of freedom in a series of eye-popping creations inspired by the world of modern dance for Dior. Gone are the movement-restricting corsets and stiff fabrics that were the benchmarks of previous seasons. Instead, there’s a new element of playfulness, be it the sheer chiffons and tulles that allow an enticing glimpse of skin or the flowy, figure-hiding overcoats and sweaters that leave you wanting more. As a final flourish, ballerina-esque flats and leotard-inspired garments have been interwoven throughout, fulfilling Chiuri’s mission to “speak about dance with a different point of view, to speak about freedom”.

Fendi

Embracing the urban concrete jungle in which we live, Fendi’s recently passed and much-mourned creative director Karl Lagerfeld turned it on its head, using a minimalist palette of sage, cognac, burgundy, tangerine and white to create a collection that is brilliant in its down to-earth appeal. Though ostensibly masculine in shape, the attires are deliberately softened by a touch of femininity through gathered patch pockets, ruched sleeves, feminine belts, floral prints and even bib collars. And while the dresses themselves are strictly utilitarian, the accessories – such as the legendary Baguette bag from the ’90s that makes a reappearance with sequin embellishments – give them an unmistakably signature Fendi flamboyance.

Givenchy

Building on her well-known penchant for creating entire collections around one singularly compelling individual, Givenchy creative director Clare Waight-Keller has once again plumbed the depths of historical archives to present a new line inspired by Annemarie Schwarzenbach, an early 20th-century bisexual Swiss journalist and photographer with a penchant for cross-dressing. On a mission to “collide the codes” of menswear and women’s apparel, she has embraced Schwarzenbach’s gender fluidity to the fullest, balancing the feminine – swishing floor-length gowns, shimmering tassels and crystal accents – with distinctly masculine tuxedo jackets, trenches and trousers. The verdict? A barrierbreaking success.

Hermès

Eschewing the outré in favour of clean lines and light tones, French haute couture maison Hermès has wholly embraced the spirit of summer with an array of decidedly sporty creations. In place of the equine designs that dominated last season’s catwalks, this year’s focus is more in line with beach chic, with strappy sandals, peek-a-boo bralettes and shoulder-baring shirts all in play. As usual, the brand’s iconic orange hue was very much in evidence, whether accenting a hemline or dominating across a sailing coat. Of particular note, though, is the seamless transformation of Hermès’ sturdier leather designs into comfortable, breathable summery garments and accessories that still retain an aura of casual sophistication while taking ‘athleisure’ wear to new heights.

Bag Baggers: A bonanza of Hermes Birkin bags fetch top dollar at auction

On the very rare occasion that a Hermès Birkin bag comes up for auction, it offers buyers an irresistible opportunity to jump the minimum two-year queue for this notoriously luxurious item of ladies’ luggage.

Hermes Birkin Bag Bonanza

Imagine the delight, then, when news rippled across high-end Hong Kong that the local Christie’s had somehow managed to wrangle a whopping seven of them into one of its most-widely-anticipated-ever winter sales. Sure enough, with a brigade of Birkin-bereft buyers making a beeline for the auction house, it was no surprise that total takings for the much-talked about-totes topped US$5.5 million, with half of their bags going for well beyond the initial estimates.

While none of the items of haute handbaggery failed to impress, most impressive of all was the Rare Matte White Himalaya Nilocticus Crocodile Retourné Kelly 28 with Palladium Hardware (2015), which went for a rather grand US$208,644 – more than double the estimate of US$77,038. Also of note was the sale of a Rare, Shiny Ombré Salvator Lizard Birkin 25 with Gold Hardware (2007), which went for US$60,988, and a Shiny Black Porosus Crocodile Sellier Mini Kelly 20 with Gold Hardware (1994) that went for a cool US$56,173.
