The death of Karl Lagerfeld, the German fashion industry icon who crafted some of the world’s most iconic catwalk creations, plunged the entire world into mourning. The enigmatic designer, whose love of all things avant-garde was the stuff of legend, almost single-handedly drove fashion houses like Chanel, Fendi and his own eponymous brand to the very pinnacle of success with his amazing artistic vision and creativity. Karl Lagerfeld had a passion for Diet Coke. In fact, he was so enamoured with the fizzy beverage that he reportedly consumed up to 10 cans per day. When asked it, he famously responded: “I drink Diet Coke from the minute I get up to the minute I go to bed. I can even drink it in the middle of the night, and I can sleep. I don’t drink coffee, I don’t drink tea, I drink nothing else.”

How many iPods is too many?

Books weren’t the only thing that the iconic German designer collected. He was also the proud owner of not one, not two but 300 Apple iPods, each pre-loaded with a different category of music. 2000’s – Flirtatious and fun, the new millennium ushered in the popularisation of the ‘Little Black Dress’ as well as sophisticated casual wear.

2010’s –With nods to vintage fashion fads (twill suits and denim designs) as well as an eye on the future (Space-Age plastic accents), this decade was all about reconciling the past with the yet-to-come.

The third edition of Chanel’s Mademoiselle Privé is about to hit our city after successfully premiering in London in October 2015 and again in Seoul last summer. The interactive exhibition, to be held at Hong Kong’s PMQ heritage venue, pays homage to the creative legacy of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, the brand’s eponymous founder, and current creative director Karl Lagerfeld.

Fans of the brand will be treated to first-hand experience in crafting some of Chanel’s iconic products. The festivities begin with a high jewellery workshop (13-18 January) followed by a Lemarie feather and flower creation session (19-25 January) and ending with a masterclass in the iconic No.5 perfume (26 January – 1 February).
