[Feature Story by Grande Interior Design] Haven By The Sea: Gorgeous and luxurious family home with sweeping sea views

Experience the joys of seaside living

This detached family home nestled by the sea is designed to integrate the serene ocean views seamlessly. Extensive floor-to-ceiling windows flood the interior with natural light, creating a profound sense of openness. Grounded in a soothing, earthy color palette and rich oak accents, minimalist lighting and high-quality materials further elevate the refined, artistic ambience. Tailored to the owners’ love of entertaining, the versatile layout includes indoor and outdoor dining areas, allowing them to fully immerse in the leisurely, luxurious experience of seaside living.

Fabulous foyer

The foyer design of this detached house serves as the introductory prelude to the home, where our designer deliberately accentuates this space to imbue a refined quality. The use of wall panels conceals the entry door, simultaneously creating a cohesive, continuous feel. Given the space available on both sides, our designer cleverly incorporated a walk-in closet on one side, while the other side is fashioned into a guest powder room, effectively maximizing the expansive foyer area. The central feature wall intentionally added a half-height cabinet to frame a mirror and oil painting, adding richness to the layered composition.

Living & dining room, kitchen

For this exceptionally long-shaped living and dining room, the design maximizes the ceiling height to create an open, airy feel, allowing the natural light and sweeping sea views to permeate the interior spaces. Catering to the homeowners’ hospitality, in addition to the main dining area, the design incorporates various other dining zones, such as a small breakfast nook within the dining room, a kitchen island with stools for casual meals or food-prep, and an outdoor dining setup on the spacious balcony.

This allows them to host family and friends for a joyful dining experience throughout the home. As for the living room design, the focus is on a more subdued aesthetic, with dark oak wood, oil paintings, and metal display shelves imbuing the space with a profound, artistic ambience. The kitchen is designed with both Chinese and Western culinary zones, utilizing sliding doors to allow for connectivity while also creating separation to contain cooking fumes.

Master ensuite & family room

The master suite enjoys an open, sea-facing vista, and the design adopts a serene, pale-toned European style to cultivate a tranquil, mindful ambience. The decorative headboard and spherical pendant lights further accentuate the suite’s Continental design character. Capitalizing on the ample space, a small private alcove has been created at the foot of the bed, allowing the homeowners to enjoy a personal retreat during their leisure time. The master bathroom features a more classical color palette, with cobalt blue tiles complemented by metallic accents to create a vintage, distinguished ambience. This spacious layout also accommodates a freestanding bathtub, a walk-in shower, and dual vanities. Directly connected to the master bathroom is a dedicated walk-in closet, further optimizing the space to suit the homeowners’ lifestyle.

Guest bedroom

The house is also equipped with several guest rooms to accommodate visiting friends. In one of the guest rooms, a storage cabinet has been built into the wall. Inside is a hidden, fold-down bed that can be easily pulled down when needed. When there are no guests, this space can be used as a massage room with a massage bed. Another guest room is located on a separate floor from the master suite and features a private balcony, providing the same expansive, panoramic sea views as the master bedroom.

Home office

To accommodate the owner’s need for a dedicated workspace, one of the rooms has been designated as a home office. We expanded the study area, adding not only a work desk but also a lounge space with sofas, providing a suitable setting to host meetings. Due to the constraints posed by the ceiling beams, the area utilizes a combination of low and high ceilings. The low ceiling area serves as the work zone, while the high ceiling section offers a relaxation space.

Media room

The family also places great emphasis on their children’s growth and development. In addition to providing each child with their own independent private space in the bedrooms, the indoor and outdoor areas have been designed to offer shared play spaces for the children, including an outdoor swimming pool, and a grassy lawn. Furthermore, one of the rooms has been converted into a dedicated media room, allowing the children to have a designated space for entertainment and relaxation, creating a pleasant environment for their growth and well-being.

Children’s bedroom

The daughter’s room is relatively more spacious. Within the room, we have created a dedicated sleeping area. On the other side, we have designed an ensuite bathroom, a walk-in closet, and a study area, transforming the bedroom into a comprehensive and comfortable living space. The bedroom design features curved lines throughout the furniture, complemented by vibrant wallpaper patterns, creating a personalized environment tailored to the daughter. As for the son’s room, we have added a long row of wardrobes along the corridor, increasing the storage space while saving more room for the sleeping area.

Hankow Centre: Creating a vibrant living space for all the family

Hankow Centre, situated in Tsim Sha Tsui, boasts a distinctive residential design spanning over 1000 square feet, tailored for an Indian family of five. By combining two units, an extra-large living space was created, reimagined through interior customization and spatial planning. The minimalist approach adopted by our designer features wood tones and curved lines throughout, maintaining a cohesive theme and cultivating an open and spacious residential environment.

Living & Dining Room

The foyer area incorporates mirrors within a minimalist colour scheme to maximize natural light, particularly in areas with limited daylight. The dining and living spaces have been seamlessly integrated into an extra-large hall, with an open layout providing clear separation and purpose definition. To address protruding beams, decorative false ceilings were introduced, adorned with circular lines for added embellishment. Built-in wall cabinets in the dining and living areas offer ample storage while harmonizing with the curved feature wall design, enhancing the overall spatial arrangement.

Master Ensuite & Closet

The master suite features a storage wall cabinet that divides the sleeping area from a small walk-in closet, exuding a serene and natural ambience with grey-beige hues, wooden furniture, and hardwood flooring. The television area is integrated with storage functionality on one side of the storage wall, fulfilling the owner’s requirements. The master bathroom boasts both a shower cubicle and a bathtub, offering a complete range of functional amenities.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

Designed for the owner’s three children, each room incorporates unique features to foster an ideal growth environment. The son’s bedroom integrates vibrant colours as accents in a minimalist space, with a feature wall for displaying books and models, creating a joyful atmosphere.

A tour a round a sublime 1800 square-feet home in St. Mortiz

Envisioning a home with seamless elegance and then manifesting perfection in every inch of its space is a feat that proves a challenge for many. One such example where the designers have been able to achieve this, is a home nestled in the St. Mortiz complex, named after the Swiss alpine resort town of its namesake.

Located in the idyllic neighbourhood of Kau To Shan, the unit is an embodiment of minimalist design, making room for inspiration and the refined taste of its owners’ to stand out, while showcasing the panaromic views of the home’s surrounding landscape and natural beauty, courtesy of the unit’s cleverly placed floor-to-ceiling windows.

To realise the client’s dream home, Mary Cheung, art director for Grande Interior Design, has thoughtfully planned this duplex house with comfort and functionality in mind, while the aesthetics follow a soft theme through tastefully muted colours and reflective surfaces. Occupying a generous 1800 sq ft, the space lets in plenty of natural light, making the rooms appear even more spacious. White and beige being the dominant colours in the palette, the frames of windows, ceiling, cabinets, balustrade and mirrors are kept darker to create a contrast and engender a more stylish, sharper look.

Cavernous Creation
Stepping inside the capacious foyer, one can’t help but notice an artisan brown glass chandelier hanging through a recessed opening in the ceiling. The entrance is highlighted with a glass mirror and metal featured on the pure white wall making it a focal point. One side of the area has a small storage space that blends in with the walls, tastefully done to match the mix of colours. Just next to these slender storage cabinets is a dusky framed glass screen, separating the stairs from the foyer and maintaining privacy.

Moving further along is a cavernous living room, which incorporates an adjoining dining area and bar at the far end. The edges of the ceiling, cabinets and shelves in between are curved and refined for a smoother impression of the minimalist design. To fit the theme of a flowing style, the carpet, table tops and a feature wall peeking underneath the cabinets, all have a marble pattern. Nothing in the room is too linear and direct, even the sculptures and art pieces are round and curvy. Simplicity and minimalist design is evident in every nook and corner of the house, but the aesthetics and exquisiteness are never compromised.

Tranquil Ambience
A long ice-white carpet flows through the living room to the dining area so as to unify both spaces into one, looking like a fluid reflection of the white ceiling above. The lush green trees and hills outside feel like an extension of the living room because of their unobstructed views through the amply proportioned windows. The soothing sense of freshness is tangible here, making it a perfect place for a chill afternoon in solitude or to enjoy a hearty meal with friends and family.

The discerning layout of both floors distinguishes them in their functionality and visual appeal. While the ground floor is more of an open space, the floor above is more spatially constrained – private and measured – giving each bedroom and the multipurpose bedroom their own ambiance.

A characteristic feature of the dining area is a sophisticated floral-shaped pendant light hanging above the dining table, creating a dynamic visual effect. The placement is such that it marks the centre of the overall ceiling making it a chief feature of the entire space. The reformed open kitchen island next to the dining area is an ideal place to prepare meals while looking out the window at the natural world beyond.

The elegant wooden winder stairs from the living room take you to the floor above and lead to a versatile area nestled between the two bedrooms. As the home was renovated for a couple with a grown daughter, the designer turned two small guestrooms into one multipurpose room which now serves both as an area for family gathering and as a guest room when friends come over. It can be closed and opened through a sliding door depending on the occasion – either becoming part of the hallway or a private space to read or meditate.

Sleep Sanctuary
The master bedroom exudes elegance with its earth tone palette and beige combinations. The décor is classic yet minimalist, giving the room a monochromatic feel with subtle light contrasts The bedroom’s cosy mood invites one to unwind and relax, offering a sanctuary to forget worries and connect with one’s own deeper essence. The storage space in the room is only for the essentials and the dresser table is extending towards the cabinet – giving it all a sense of movement and purpose. The master bedroom also features a balcony for its fortunate dweller to bask in the verdant views beyond, surrounded by fresh air with a soothing cup of hot brew in hand.

The second bedroom has an independent walk-in closet with a translucent sliding door, allowing the space to be suitable for both study and work. The desk adjoining the wardrobe has a generous view of the green outdoors making it a space that inspires creativity and drives imagination. The glass sphere shaped pendants on the side tables and the stone textured headboard establish this room as the epitome of opulence.
