Turn back time with these face serums

As we get older, skincare naturally becomes more of a priority. With that very much in mind, there are five anti-ageing products you really ought to get better acquainted with.

First up, there’s Clarins’ Double Serum, with its double formula said to extend across a total of 21 effective anti-ageing water and oil-soluble ingredients, all of which are combined into just one bottle. Thankfully, this covers the big five vital skin requirements – regeneration, nutrition, hydration, oxygenation and protection.

Next, with potent ingredients said to stimulate cell renewal, gently exfoliate dead skin and erase fine lines, is RARE SkinFuel’s Eye & Lip Illuminating Serum. Apparently containing all you need to brighten your eyes and lip areas, it combines native Australian extracts with such potent skincare staples as Hyaluronic Acid and Lactobacillus. Ultimately, this serum is said to contain all the ingredients needed to tackle daily inflammation, reduce damage and conceal the tell-tale signs of stress.

Another age-defying serum stems from Dior’s research into mother cells and floral know-how – Dior Capture Totale Super Potent Serum Rich Crème. After seven days of use, its manufacturer claims your skin will be visibly smoothed, firmed, plumped, toned, evened and radiant with health. After a month’s use, apparently, the result is all but permanent.

Number four on the list comes courtesy of Giorgio Armani Beauty in the form of its Acqua Pantelleria Antioxidant Treatment, an anti-ageing lotion enriched with proprietary regenerative ingredients. Essentially, the Acqua Pantelleria serum-lotion is a slightly gelled formula designed to transform into an intensely hydrating water that delivers increased softness and elasticity.

Finally, there’s the Ultramoor Mud Mask from Omorovicza, an anti-ageing mud mask said to harness the power of Hungarian moor mud, which is rich in calcium and magnesium, as a way of drawing out any unwanted impurities.

Up Lifting: These eye creams combat those much-hated eye bags

While everyone knows that a proper night’s sleep is the most effective and natural way to combat baggy and inflamed eyelids, clocking in a nightly eight-hour repose is a challenge with Hong Kong’s frenetic pace of life, to say the least. Fortunately, many of the world’s leading beauty brands have turned their collective focus on helping fight this dermatalogical distress with a series of uplifting eye creams and masks.

First up is Chanel, that most beloved of French cosmetics companies, with its Le Lift Sérum. Using the brand’s signature PolyFractioning technology, it has extracted quintessential components of alfalfa and black peppermint to create a botanical anti-ageing shield, leaving your skin divinely smooth.

Fellow Parisian marque Dior, meanwhile, has focussed its attention on reducing micro-inflammations that cause puffy skin via its La Crème, a worthy addition to the Dior Prestige range. Drawing on the regenerative powers of its hero ingredient, the Rose de Granville, it combats ageing by stimulating regeneration and resistance at the cellular level.

For its part, Italian beauty brand Giorgio Armani Beauty has refurbished its skincare line in time for the cooler, harsher autumn season with its Crema Nera Supreme Reviving Light Cream. Reported to provide up to 24 hours of lasting moisture, it is also packed to the brim with anti-ageing components.

Clearly unwilling to be left behind, Swiss-headquartered La Prairie has launched not one but two new eye creams to help deter signs of ageing around the eyes – Skin Caviar Eye Lift and Skin Caviar Luxe Eye Cream. Together, this dynamic duo apparently combats the effects of gravity with caviar science, leaving the ocular area revived, raised and redefined.

In the darkest times, it’s still possible to shine and let all around see your inner light. Start with the lightweight Airbrush Flawless Foundation from Charlotte Tilbury, then enhance your cheekbones with Lancôme‘s Blush Subtil. Moving up to the eye region, apply Giorgio Armani Beauty’s Eyes to Kill Designer Eyeliner for an ultra-slim effect, then reach for the High-Pigment Longwear Eyeliner from NARS for a smokey touch below the eyes. Focussing on the lashes, opt for the Climax Mascara, again courtesy of NARS, before treating your eyes to a little shine from Givenchy’s Prismissime – Nine-colour eyeshadow palette. Next, add a dab of Tom Ford’s Fiber Brow Gel to the brows. Give a shine to your lips courtesy of HourglassUnreal High Shine Volumizing Lip Gloss and, finally, enhance your overall glow with Guerlain’s new Parure Gold Mist.

Santa Pores: St Nick’s perfect pick of prezzies for your skin

No matter how welcome winter is in Hong Kong, the cold winds can easily leave you feeling – and looking – frosty. Thankfully, as the season of gift-giving is upon us, there’s never been a better time to hint-bomb your nearest ones into slipping your choice of costly skincare products under the lower branches of the festive family tree.

Lancôme’s new Absolue Soft Cream should top everyone’s Crimbo cosmetics list, with its bold utilisation of rose-infused biotechnology all but guaranteed to silkily revitalise even the most cold-afflicted complexions. Immediately absorbed by your grateful epidermis, the cream gets straight to work, with your skin back to its summer peak in no time.

Another marque striking a tactical alliance with nature is Giorgio Armani Beauty, with all the ingredients of the brand’s Crema Nera Supreme Reviving Cream said to be derived from myrothamnus flabellifolia, a rare African plant reputed to have resurrectory properties. Within a month, if the company is to be believed, your winter wounds will have vanished and your skin will – once again – be in full bloom.

Rarer examples still of nature’s bounty have been sought out by Estée Lauder, with its new Re-Nutriv Ultimate Diamond Transformative Energy Creme Rich said to harness the healing power of one of the world’s most elusive ingredients – black diamond truffle extract. With such an exotic element in your corner, newly-supple skin and long-lasting hydration are almost a given.

Should Santa still have space in his sack, Augustinus Bader’s Rich Cream, with its blend of argan, avocado and evening primrose oils, is just the perfect way to de-crinkle your skincare this Christmas.
