Will Smith, Colin Farrell attend Chopard’s Gentlemen’s Evening in Cannes

Chopard recently hosted an exclusive event for gentlemen on the rooftop of the Hotel Martinez in Cannes. The Gentlemen’s Evening was the perfect occasion for debonair gents to relax and unwind with Roederer champagne, Grey Goose, Patron Anejo cocktails and cigars by Daniel Marshall.

The event, co-hosted by London club Annabel’s and held during the Cannes Film Festival, put the spotlight on men and allowed those in attendance to relax in an extremely gentlemanly atmosphere.

The Gentlemen’s Evening was attended by Chopard co-presidents Caroline and Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, as well as a number of well-known figures including Colin Farrell, Will Smith, Marion Cotillard and Christoph Waltz.

Earlier at Cannes, Will Smith wore a Chopard L.U.C XPS 1860 Black Tie watch in 18-carat white gold and Colin Farrell sported a L.U.C XPS Fairmined 18-carat rose gold watch.

Chopard takes guests out of this world at Cannes SPACE Party

Chopard hosted one of the most eagerly-anticipated events of the Cannes Festival last week, SPACE Party.

The exclusive event was attended by a veritable who’s who of A-listers, including Julianne Moore, Rihanna, Will Smith, Eva Herzigova, Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid.

The party was hosted by Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director Caroline Scheufele and the stars at the party fully embraced the “Galactic with a touch of diamond!” dress code.

“The Cannes Festival is a must for Chopard. Each year, I seek to dazzle my guests by offering them an original and unforgettable evening,” said Scheufele.

Guests enjoyed dinner served in a space shuttle, while models adorned in the latest red carpet creations from Chopard and wearing clothes by Elie Saab paraded past.

The evening was also a celebration of the collaboration between Chopard and Rihanna, who wore jewellery from the Rihanna ♥ Chopard collection earlier in the day at the festival.

For men who attend award shows, the go-to outfit tends to be a tuxedo, but some of the discerning gentlemen at the Macau Award Night used the occasion to go out on a limb and model more daring attire.

Preview: The top lots at Phillips’ upcoming art, jewellery auctions

Phillips auction house will hold two auctions on 28 May: the “Warhol in China” photography auction at 6 pm and the “20th Century & Contemporary Art & Design Evening Sale” at 7pm.

Rolling right through the weekend, Phillips will host the “Exceptional Jewels and Jadeite” auction on 29 May at 2:30pm, and the “Hong Kong Watch Auction: Four” on 30 May at 1pm and 6pm. All auctions will be held at the Mandarin Oriental.

Altogether, Phillips will be bringing the hammer down on over 200 lots. Here are just a few of the highlights to watch out for.

Andy Warhol photography collection

American artist Andy Warhol is well-known for his pop art paintings and drawings, but few knew he also took photos. A rare collection of 200 photographs that he snapped in China and Hong Kong during a 1982 trip will go under the hammer, with estimates starting at HK$80,000. According to Jonathan Crockett, deputy chairman of Phillips Asia, “These candid shots are dynamic, exciting and fun but also weighty in their historical importance, as Warhol was able to immortalise China during a transitional phase in the country’s history.”

Last Warrior / The Unknown Soldier by Yoshitomo Nara

Valued at between HK$20 million and $30 million, this painting is the star lot of the contemporary art auction. The painting, considered to be Japanese Neo-Pop, depicts an ornery, doll-like girl on a monochrome backdrop. The image invites viewers to recall their youth and tap into their own defiant spirit.

Eating #4 by Zhang Enli

Zhang Enli

This oil on canvas painting is a masterful interpretation of human psychology. It is considered to be one of the best pieces from Enli’s Portrait series. Much of Enli’s work was inspired by German Expressionism, and he endeavoured to depict the inner struggles of ordinary people. The painting’s price estimate is HK$6 million – 8 million.

Miss Blanche chair by Shiro Kuramata

More than just furniture, this chair by Japanese designer Shiro Kuramata is a piece of art that is sure to spruce up any room. The transparent chair, designed in 1988, features artificial roses embedded in resin. Only 56 pieces were produced, and some can be viewed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco and M+ Museum in Hong Kong. Its price estimate is HK$2.2 million – 3 million.

This ring, featuring a so-called Burmese pigeon blood ruby, is valued up to HK$20 million. The stunning, oval-shaped ruby – weighing 6.02 carats – is encased in a flower made up of diamonds. The crimson ruby, hailing from the Mogok Valley in Myanmar, is astonishing in colour. Its quality and size are both rare and highly coveted.

There’s something about a pink diamond that’s just so irresistible. This ring boasts a 4.23-carat internally flawless, antique fancy vivid purplish-pink diamond. If that weren’t enough, there’s also a 1.39-carat fancy vivid pink diamond underneath the larger diamond. So really, you get two rare diamonds for the price of oneas long as you don’t mind forking over up to HK$55 million.

Patek Philippe Reference 3670 watch

This rare timepiece is one of several Patek Philippe models that will be up for grabs at the watch auction. This stainless steel model has an original 1950’s movement, and it’s one of the brand’s rarest serially produced modern watches. When it was first produced, it was designated an “application” watch, reserved for loyal VIP clients only. Its estimate is HK$4.5 million – 7 million.

For ladies, this gem-encrusted “Tutti Frutti” watch is sure to be an attention-getter. Cartier first started using the Tutti Frutti design in 1901, embedding rubies, sapphires and emeralds into leaf designs and berry shapes. The Mughal-inspired design still remains en vogue to this day. Its estimate is HK$1.2 million – 1.6 million.

Stars turn out for Gafencu Gala Ball in Macau

Gafencu recently hosted “Time to Shine – The 3rd Grand Gafencu Ball” at the Four Seasons Hotel Macao.

The star-studded Gafencu Gala Ball was attended by a number of specially invited guests from Macau’s most exclusive social circles, along with notable faces from Hong Kong.

The event was held in Macau to mark Gafencu’s efforts to broaden its horizons beyond mainland China and Hong Kong.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Gafencu Awards, which recognised the unique achievements of some of Macau’s outstanding professionals.

Gafencu has hosted similar awards in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong for six years, but this year was the first time a number of outstanding individuals in Macau were honoured.

The awards were presented to Heidi Chan for her charity work, Vivian Lou for her business endeavours and Raymond Vong for his work in hospitality.

Guests at the event were entertained by Hong Kong-Canadian singer Joyce Cheng and a number of exclusive items were sold during a live auction.

Victoria Beckham unveils Puyi Wardrobe Pop-up Store in Hong Kong

Former Spice Girl and fashion icon Victoria Beckham was in Hong Kong this week to unveil the Puyi Wardrobe Pop-up Store in Pacific Place.

The internationally acclaimed designer spoke about her fashion philosophy, eyewear trends, styling tips and the must-haves she keeps in her wardrobe.

The event was attended by Jeffery Yau, chief executive officer of Puyi Optical, Dr Margaret Lee, Sabrina Ho and many more.

Puyi Optical is the exclusive distributor of the Victoria Beckham Eyewear collection.

The Puyi Wardrobe Pop-up Store is open until 21 May.

Outstanding professionals honoured at Gafencu Ball in Macau

Last week, Gafencu, the flagship brand of Total Media, hosted its Gala Ball at the Four Seasons Hotel Macao. The event was attended by a number of distinguished guests and famous faces from Macau and Hong Kong.

“Time to Shine – The 3rd Gafencu Ball” was an exclusive, invitation-only event and the highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Gafencu Awards, which recognised the unique achievements of some of Macau’s outstanding professionals.

Total Media has been running similar awards in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong for six years, but this year was the first time a number of outstanding individuals in Macau were honoured.

Heidi Chan – Charity

Heidi Chan won an award in the Charity category for her diverse and far-reaching charitable endeavours. Heidi has a long association with Yan Oi Tong and is the Vice Chairperson of its current Board of Directors. She is also the President of the Kwang Wai Charity Association. Moreover, she holds esteemed managerial positions in several non-profit organisations including the Macau Fok Kin Overseas Friendship Association, the Macau Chengdu Overseas Friendship Association, the Macao Kam Cheang Youth Association, the Cross Strait Association of Women Entrepreneurs of Macau, the United World Chinese Association and many more.

Raymond Vong – Hospitality

Raymond Vong walked away with the Hospitality award for striving to put his restaurants, Henri’s Galley Maxim’s and Bravo Palace, firmly on the culinary map of Macau. He is also the President of the General Assembly of the Macau Culinary Association, Master of Food of Wine Society Macau and the Officier Maitre Rotisseur of Chaine des Rotisseurs Macau.

Vivian Lou – Legacy

Vivian Lou won the Legacy award for her work as the Director of Zoneland Group Macau Limited, the Deputy Chairman of Chongshan Zoneland Real Estate Development Co. Limited and the President of Yihe Grand Hotel Limited. Vivian also established the Macy Aesthetic Medical Center in Macau and the Single Medical Aesthetics Clinic in Shanghai. She has made significant contributions to the real estate, hotel service and medical aesthetic industries in Macau, Zhongshan and Shanghai.

Charity drive held in honour of actor Paul Walker

To honour the memory of actor Paul Walker, who was killed in a car crash in 2013, his brother Cody Walker held a Drive 4 Paul charity event in Hong Kong recently.

Paul Walker was famous for his roles in the Fast & Furious movies.

The charity drive was also held to raise awareness of Reach Out Worldwide (ROWW), a non-profit, quick-response and mobile first aid organisation committed to providing rescue and recovery efforts for people affected by natural disasters and humanitarian crises around the globe. The non-profit organisation was founded by Paul Walker in 2010.  

Hong Kong was the first stop of the charity tour and participants drove from Asia World Expo to Central. They then headed to the Hong Kong Sky City Marriott Hotel for a lunch buffet.

Rene Koneberg, managing director of Audi Hong Kong and Macau, joined Cody Walker and many others at the event.
