Davidoff expands in Hong Kong with a new Flagship Store

For those in the know, the name Davidoff is synonymous with premium cigars, with the brand enjoying a long history that runs for more than 80 years. Now, this leading cigar brand is embarking on a new adventure with the opening a new Davidoff flagship store at The Landmark in Hong Kong.

Davidoff flagship store

Designed to mimic a cigar box, the new store has walk-in humidors and places allocated specially for spirits and a wide range of accessories such as cigar humidors, cases, cutters, ashtrays, lighters and pipes. Additionally, to enhance the outlet’s similarity to a cigar box, this 580sq.ft shop’s interior design is awash with earthy tones reminiscent of the colour of cigars.

More importantly, to celebrate their expansion in Hong Kong, Davidoff launched a special cigar with a second ring label marked ‘Landmark 2019’. The new “Landmark 2019” Special Edition Cigar is a limited release of just 300 sticks of Davidoff Winston Churchill – Churchill format cigar with flavours of “dark coffee, pepper, old leather wood and warm spices with a creamy and nutty aftertaste and rich aroma.”

Apart from this new store in Hong Kong, the Swiss brand also has outlets in other locations including The Peninsula Hotel and Acanta stores in Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui and The Park Lane Hotel, Causeway Bay.

Five must-have accessories for gentlemen this season

Clothes may make a man, but accessories sure do make a gentleman. We bring to you five must-have accessories to spruce up your glam quotient this fall.

Homer Time

must-have accessories

For 26 years now, Montblanc, that most eminent of German pen manufacturers, has annually honoured one of the true literary greats through its commemorative Writers’ Edition collection. This year, the company has delved back three-and-a-half millennia to a time when the Ancient Greeks were still the Rather Contemporary Greeks and bestowed the honour upon Homer, the man without whose verse history we would know little of the Fall of Troy and wouldn’t be able to deploy the word “Odyssey” as a sure-fire Scrabble winner.

Smokin’ Hot

must-have accessories

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Davidoff, trailblazer in the cigar world, has launched Caves du Monde – a series of humidors in four patterns, each representing a corner of the world – The Americas, Middle East, Europe and Asia. Designed by Mariane Léger, the legendary French artist, each humidor recreates a world of full of inspirations and cultural treasures. Mariane uses her skills to inlay hand-woven fabric into wood: mirroring the intricate craft that Davidoff applies in making its finest-quality cigars.

 Old Soles

must-have accessories

British shoemaker John Lobb raided its own rural roots when it set about devising its Fall/Winter 2018-19 collection. Looking for inspiration from the brand’s eponymous founder – a 19th century Cornish farm boy – artistic director Paula Gerbase set out to create a collection of men’s formal and semi-formal footwear with a focus on natural tones, textures and materials, including various shades of suede and calfskin. The upshot, according to the brand, is a fine selection of lightweight walking shoes, a style very much on trend.

Sci-Fi Spectacle

must-have accessories

Gentle Monster, the Seoul-based designer spectacles and sunglasses brand, has eschewed all things retro with the launch of its very forward-looking Once Upon A Future collection. Scarcely skimping on any stalwart of sci-fi-led style, the range is awash with shining, shimmering silver and chrome lenses, and futuristically-fashioned nose bridges and frames straight out of the Buck Rogers playbook. Outlining the thinking behind this outré optical experiment, the company said: “We’re striving to evoke the paradoxical feeling of remembering the future.” Well, that clears that up then.

Shoes in Hues

must-have accessories

Giuseppe Zanotti, the Italian luxury fashion brand, looks set to continue its head-turning ways with its latest low-top footwear collection, RNBW. Featuring six super-glossy pop colours in diagonal and vertical arrangements, the RNBW sneakers come treated with a special paint that is said to bestow a liquid lacquer effect on leather, making this somewhat fancy footwear look as though it has been freshly rainbow-dipped. Available in sizes 16-33 in men’s, women’s and children’s shoe styles, this multi-hued array is a true on-feet visual treat.

Davidoff and Hennessy host exclusive cigar-cognac pairing event

Davidoff and Hennessy joined forces to host an exclusive cigar and cognac pairing event at three Michelin-starred L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon recently. Invited VIP guests were treated to a first taste of the latest offerings from these two prestigious labels.

Davidoff and Hennessy cognac-cigar pairing dinner a success

Among the highlights of the evening were Davidoff’s newly launched 702 series and Winston Churchill Late Hour Cigars, as well as Hennessy’s much-lauded Paradis Imperial. Maurice Richard Hennessy, Global Brand Ambassador and a descendant of the cognac brand’s founding father, was on hand to impart top pairing tips to the gathered diners as well.

The indulgent affair once again displayed the expertise and attention to detail that have made Davidoff and Hennessy such beloved institutions in their respective fields.

Davidoff CEO on enticing new customers, links to the art world

Davidoff’s gregarious CEO, Hans-Kristian Hoejsgaard, was at Art Basel last week to present the brand’s Humidor Damajagua.

The humidor, crafted by renowned French marquetry artist Rose Saneuil, is seen by the company as an ode to the Caribbean.

Saneuil was inspired by Davidoff’s Caribbean heritage and the forest of Damajagua in the Dominican Republic.

The drawing shows a vibrant vermilion bird, a symbol of natural benevolence, swooping over a mystical Caribbean forest, encouraging the tobacco leaves beneath to thrive.

Davidoff has been cultivating filler tobacco in Damajagua since 2002.

The luxury cigar brand also operates the Davidoff Art Initiative, launched in 2012 in the Dominican Republic.

The Art Initiative supports contemporary art and artists in the Caribbean.

We sat down with Hans-Kristian at Art Basel to discuss how Davidoff attracts new clients and its links to the art world.
