July 8 saw the inaugural presentation of the Tony Cruz Award. Presented at this year’s ever respected Champion Award Ceremony in the Grand Hyatt’s Grand Ballroom, the award takes its name from one of Hong Kong’s most successful ever trainers and jockeys and will now be presented on an annual basis to the most successful local rider in terms of overall wins, whether a freelance jockey or an apprentice. For the 2015/16 season the award was presented to Kei Chiong, a young female jockey.
