Heels are to a woman’s outfit what lipstick is to her makeup– they are an accessory to power and confidence. Although gorgeous footwear offers a boost to height as well as poise, they need not hurt your feet. Fortunately, this year’s runway trends offer a wide range of heels that are fashionable yet comfortable for the feet.

Curved-in pumps

Though a pair of classic pumps will instantly elevate any outfit, high heels aren’t always synonymous with comfort. The pain that comes with a pair of stilettos is likely due to the design and craftsmanship of the shoes. The placement of the heels on the shoes is a significant key in how the body’s weight shifts towards the ball of the feet, causing that familiar pain at the bottom of the feet. Avoid heels that are placed at the end of the shoes and opt for ones that curve inward. With this, weight is placed at the back of a foot instead of the front of the foot.

Chunky / Platforms

Those who aren’t used to wearing heels or with balance issues but still want the slimming silhouette that a pair of stunning pumps offers are advised to go for chunky styles which provide a boost of a few centimeters and also offer better stability to narrow heels. Thicker platforms or soles of the shoes also help redistribute weight.

Slingback

Although open-style sandals are an undeniably elegant adornment for the feet, they often prompt the wearer to grip the front of the sandals by putting more pressure on the toes, adding pressure and causing pain to the ball of the feet. A slingback wraps around the ankles to prevent slipping, friction and pressure and provide support for even weight distribution.

Spool

Spool types are short but elegant and functional. They offer unseasoned heel wearers comfort and poise and sophistication of a lady. This style of footwear, in contrast to high heels, is less prone to pain, imbalance, injury and muscle and joint pains as it doesn’t require much effort to stay balanced and secure.

Loafers

Footwear that hugs the feet or at least covers the front of the feet allows the feet to stay on the shoes. It offers support, stability and prevents slipping. This footwear type provides less slippage and more comfort. There are several new designs for loafers that improve on traditional boring designs that fashion gold, floral, and chain details.

Contrary to the “pain is beauty” hackneyed expression, heels are meant to provide women with ample confidence, and there is nothing that offers confidence more than comfort.
