Fashion flower power

Using a period of time filled with free love, flower power and liberal thinking as an influence, one of Britain’s leading fashion designers is hoping his Spring/Summer collection 2017 will bring people closer together.

Paul Smith’s SS17 collection is inspired by friendship and floral garlands, which are associated with the hippie-style fashion of placing flowers through your hair.

And the hippie movement probably knows more about flower power and how to bring people together through peace, love and happiness than anyone else.

To try and capture this feeling of love, the designer has gone all-out floral and his photographic floral prints appear hand-drawn or woven onto the cloth which gives a modern feel to a classic summer look.

This is echoed in the casualness of sandals and espadrilles with the new Artist Stripe.

Louis Vuitton leather goes vintage

Louis Vuitton’s signature “LV” print has received a quirky revamp with the addition of pink flamingoes, a retro car and a steering wheel.

The Monogram canvas is reminiscent of stickers that hotels used to place on guests’ trunks as travel mementos. The vintage-inspired collection of leather goods includes wallets, cosmetic bags, backpacks, luggage and even a pair of heeled Check Point boots with three “stickers” adorning the side.

Well-suited to the intrepid explorer who likes to travel in style, this collection stands out for its playfulness.

First N°21 store in Hong Kong opens

Two years after opening its first store in Tokyo, high-end Italian brand N°21 has landed in Hong Kong.

The fashion house’s newest shop is located on Ice House Street in Central. The store was co-designed by architect Hannes Peer and N°21 founder Alessandro Dell’Acqua to resemble the contemporary art of Damien Hirst. Marquinia marble and mirrored walls are among the modern design elements featured.

N°21 debuted as a brand with its Fall/Winter 2010/2011 collection during Milan Fashion Week. Earlier this year, the brand opened its second store in Milan, and the label is sold at more than 600 multibrand retail locations. The brand offers men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories.

This season’s collection will heavily play up mix-and-match pieces and androgynous elements, including large collars and oversized garments. More classically feminine elements will still be featured – stars, bows, lace and side slits, and pleats. Check, leopard and floral prints boldly take centre stage in this collection.
